Masonite I-Joists are a lightweight alternative to conventional timber members, offering time-saving and cost-saving solutions for floor, roof and wall construction in a broad variety of private and public sector applications. With high strength, structural integrity and minimal environmental impact, they accommodate clear spans up to 10 metres within floor systems. Traditional timber can warp, twist and shrink, causing costly site call-backs, unlike Masonite I-Joists which have a superior dimensional stability. The majority of them are used in residential construction projects, although they are ideal for commercial applications such as offices.

Masonite engineered timber I-Joists are comprised of slow-grown high grade whitewood flanges combined with Masonite K40 structural board for the web. Manufactured in Sweden since 1974, Masonite I-Joists carry both BBA and ETA certification and CE marking, together with FSC chain of custody certification. They are manufactured in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and the environmental standard ISO 14001.

Masonite I-Joists are offered in the following standard depths: 220mm, 240mm, 300mm, 350mm and 400mm. To meet all structural requirements, Masonite beams are manufactured to a variety of widths and lengths.

Superior Web Properties

During the manufacturing process, steam is used to explode wood chips into long fibres that are pressed and heat treated to make the unique Masonite I-Joist web. The longer fibres give the boards greater bending rigidity, tensile strength and higher dimensional stability than boards made with shorter fibres.

Non-Allergenic

Due to the unique manufacturing process of Masonite K Series Structural Boards, only a very small amount of a very stable adhesive is used in their manufacture. As a result, Masonite is the first company to be approved in Sweden as a manufacturer of non-allergenic building products.

Fire Resistance

Tests carried out by Chiltern International Fire demonstrate the ability of Masonite Beams to be incorporated into construction designed to provide up to one hour fire resistance.

Masonite Studs for Walls and Studwork

Available are R type studs using 47mm x 47mm C18 graded flanges; H type standard Joists, again with 47mm x 47mm flanges, but with either C24 or C30 graded timber; and finally the heavy duty HI section for which a 70mm x 47mm flange is adopted. Masonite Top and Sole Plates are available for the transfer of loads between a roof truss and a wall and between a wall and a foundation.

Masonite Structural Board

Masonite Structural Board is used for linking together structures made of Masonite I-Joists and studs, for instance in panels as gussets in roof trusses, and as horizontal stabilisation in walls.
